- Access to Electronics. The more time-consuming and obvious it is to break into a dispenser, the less likely a theft or fraud will occur through the electronic system. To access the electronics on a Dresser Wayne dispenser, a person must unfasten multiple tamper-resistant screws to open the bezel door, which is separate from the printer access door used to make routine paper changes. Competitors' dispensing equipment can be accessed with a single (and easily duplicated) key by opening a smaller panel that also provides access to the printer.
- Programming Security. The easier it is to make changes to a dispenser's operating configuration, the more vulnerable that dispenser is to fuel theft. Electronics on Dresser Wayne dispensers are programmed by a password-controlled remote, typically stored separately with site personnel or available only to authorized technicians. Competitors' equipment is often vulnerable because programming keypads are left in the dispenser and common passwords are widely known.
- Process. While all dispensers require access and the use of programming devices, Dresser Wayne adds an extra level of security by requiring a specialized PCB jumper to enable standalone (or off-line) fueling so that thieves can't dispense fuel undetected or change the price-per-unit setting.
With regards to deterring payment card fraud, Dresser Wayne dispensers have short, clean cable routings to allow easy inspection, enabling faster detection of electronic skimming devices. In addition, Dresser Wayne dispensers feature Encrypting PIN Pads (EPPs), which help protect customer privacy and security by providing encryption protection and ensuring that debit card PINs cannot be easily observed.
Of course, with enough time, knowledge, access and determination, any dispenser can be susceptible to the types of theft recently reported. To ensure that our dispensers continue to provide high levels of security, Dresser Wayne engineers diligently focus on designing products that make these attacks as difficult as possible
